CV differences across the GCC
A “Gulf CV” isn’t one format. Each country’s labour market, visa regime, and recruiter expectations shift the emphasis enough that a thoughtful tweak per application makes a real difference.
Saudi Arabia (KSA)
Saudisation (Nitaqat) quotas mean nationality is screened heavily. Expats should list visa status and current employer transferability upfront. Arabic ability — even basic — is a strong differentiator for Riyadh and Dammam roles. Vision 2030 sectors (giga-projects, fintech, tourism) value international experience and English-language project work.
Qatar
Qatari recruiters expect a clean, conservative CV with a photo and full personal details. Energy, construction, and finance dominate. Notice period and current sponsor are screened early — make both obvious.
UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman
Closest in expectations to a Dubai CV: two pages, photo optional, quantified bullets, clearly listed visa status. Kuwait and Oman are smaller markets where referrals matter more than ATS — but the CV still has to read cleanly to a human in 10 seconds.
Do I need an Arabic CV?
For most private-sector roles in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait — no, English is the working language. For Saudi government, semi-government, and family-business roles, a parallel Arabic version (translated by a native speaker, not Google Translate) helps. Keep your English CV as the primary; attach the Arabic version when asked.
Visa context matters
GCC recruiters treat “Employment Visa – Transferable (NOC available)” very differently from “Visit Visa”. State your situation honestly — vague phrasing gets you skipped. Then check the final draft in our free ATS checker.
